Welcome Sara Lom, The Tree Council's new Chief Executive!
Sara Lom arrived this month as the new Chief Executive of The Tree Council. She joins us from the Royal Parks Foundation, where she was CEO responsible for supporting 5,000 acres of wild green space and 500 years of history in our capital city.
Sara says: 'I was brought up in the Herefordshire countryside and, as a child, enjoyed planting trees with my great-grandfather. We also spent lots of time pottering about in his greenhouse. This love of nature has continued throughout my life - although I took a diversion into the fine wine trade and managing international orchestras before I landed with the Royal Parks!
'I feel honoured to join the team at The Tree Council - including the wonderful partners and extraordinary volunteers from all around the UK who share our mission for trees and hedgerows. I'm very much looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can in the coming year. You do amazing work. Thank you! I'd love to learn more about the different ways you connect with trees in your communities. I'd also like to understand the challenges you face and how we might support you better.
'Trees have transformed my life. They've given me roots and a sense of history and an idea of my own place in the world. I would like to inspire and challenge even more people to share that beauty and excitement so that trees remain valued and respected in our rapidly changing environment.'
