Felix Dennis: 1947 - 2014
Last September, Felix Dennis was hale enough to wield both a spade and a couplet with equal dexterity on the occasion of the millionth tree planting for the Heart of England Forest at Spernal. The Tree Council’s Director-General, Pauline Buchanan Black, told the audience that day of the warmth Felix has generated with his planting exploits, the scale and ambition of which are both admired and envied. His tree story is most definitely the biggest of the tree stories we’ve ever been told – that the dream is not impossible. Determination, single-mindedness, uncowed by bureaucracy and unsurpassed by any other charity or individual in the UK – truly, nothing comes close. We salute his achievements, mourn his loss and vow to uphold his green legacy.
