On the trail of rare amphibians
Broadland Tree Wardens recently went in search of the rare great crested newt.Like many Tree Wardens, their interest is not just in trees but also the wider environment – finding out more about it and what they can do to help conserve wildlife and their habitats.
Their June meeting took the form of a visit to Silfield Nature Reserve, near Wymondham, Norfolk, home of the rare and protected great crested newt. It is also a haven for frogs, toads, smooth newts and a range of butterflies and wildflowers.
The visit was organised by Broadland District Council’s Conservation Section and led by Jo Lester, Tree Warden for Reedham.
