Taking a walk in the woods

Portsmouth and Southsea Tree Wardens took steps to celebrate this year’s Walk in the Woods month. They explored the trees in Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Horndean, Hampshire – 2,000 acres of open access woodland and downland set within the South Downs National Park. Its tree habitats range from ancient woodland and hazel coppice to beech and conifer plantations (photo: John Scott).

Tree Wardens and their friends are pictured here checking the identification of a tree in what is the county’s largest country park.
Walk in the Woods, The Tree Council’s annual celebration throughout May, is a great time for Tree Wardens to organise an event that will get people out enjoying trees at a time when they look especially beautiful.

A particular aim of Walk in the Woods is to attract people who rarely, if ever, visit woods – even those on their doorstep. www.treecouncil.org.uk/community-action/walk-in-the-woods
