Book now for regional Tree Warden forums, with “The Forest Where you Live” as their theme. The theme, chosen to mark International Year of the Forest, refers to the individual trees and small clumps in streets, parks and gardens that make up the ‘urban forests’ of the towns, villages and cities where most people live.
Through talks and outdoor workshops, the forums will look at the immense value to society and the environment of this type of ‘forest’, and the importance of making every tree matter. They will cover some of the practical difficulties of getting new trees established in the urban forest and ensuring they thrive.
Forums will also look at Defra’s Big Tree Plant campaign and the opportunities for funding that this new national initiative offers. The dates are:
• West Midlands: 17 September, Temple Guiting, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
• Southern: 18 September, Wilton, near Salisbury, Wiltshire
• East Midlands: 24 September, Derby Arboretum
• East Anglia: 8 October, Sawston, near Cambridge
• South East: 9 October, Horsham, West Sussex
• South West: 15 October, Devonport, Plymouth
