national_tree_weekDecember 2007

The Tree Council website, http://www.treecouncil.org.uk/, has been re-launched for National Tree Week 2007. The site has been produced for us by web design company Spring Digital (working pro bono) and will be a great resource for anyone interested in the work of The Tree Council. ‘Our fantastic new website is really clear and concise and is so easy to navigate. We really feel that anyone looking for information on our work and especially the initiatives and campaigns taking place over the next year will find all they need and more' said Pauline Buchanan Black, director-general of The Tree Council. ‘We will be updating the site regularly with news stories, including those from our Tree Wardens and member organisations, so this really will be a great source of up-to-date news on all our activities throughout the year.'

The Tree Council's Tree Care Campaign: Trees Matter - Cherish Them
March to September 2008 - launch date Thursday 20th March

This campaign encourages some simple tree care and maintenance that will go a long way to ensuring the survival rates of trees - both young and old. A little tending can make a significant difference to the health of a tree. Practical tips can be found on our website or the handy booklet ‘Managing and Caring for Trees' can be bought by contacting The Tree Council direct.

The Tree Council's Walk in the Woods: Trees Matter - Enjoy Them
Throughout May 2008

Getting out and about and enjoying the beauty of trees is the focus of this month long festival. And the real beauty is that people don't even need to go very far to do so - the physical and mental well-being that trees provide can be found in both country and urban settings alike. Our website will feature organised events taking place nationwide - alternatively people can simply take a walk of their own choosing to enjoy the trees in local streets, parks or open woodlands.

The Tree Council's Seed Gathering Season: Trees Matter - Make the Most of Them
23rd September to 23rd October 2008

This autumn festival encourages everyone to go out and collect seeds and nuts to help grow the trees of the future or to gather seasonal fruit to enjoy. Events will be taking place nationwide for people to participate in: alternatively, local parks or woods offer a bounty - remembering that a home will need to be found for all the seeds collected!

The Tree Council's National Tree Week: Trees Matter - Plant Them
26th November to 7th December 2008

The UK's largest celebration of trees and tree planting is a great opportunity to plant the right trees in the right places to benefit both the wider environment and local communities. A great range of activities will take place throughout the UK, including tree dressing, woodcrafts, walks, talks, songs and story telling.

Details of activities for Walk in the Woods, Seed Gathering Season and National Tree Week, taking place throughout the UK, can be found on our website http://www.treecouncil.org.uk/ or by calling our info line on 020 7940 8180 (office hours).
