  • Description:

Londoners who love trees have the chance to stand up and be counted at the first of a series of practical events for new volunteers to learn how to care for the capital’s green heritage – on Saturday 28 January.

These training events are key to the Londoners Love Trees initiative, funded by the Mayor’s Team London volunteering programme. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has the aim to get 4,000 Londoners involved in growing, planting, surveying and caring for urban trees through this initiative.

Volunteers at Saturday’s event will get a taste of some of the practical work that’s involved in being a Tree Warden. Together with Tree Council experts, they will visit streets in the London Bridge area where the charity is based to learn how to identify places where new trees could be planted, consider which type of tree would be most suitable for a particular location and why, and look at what’s involved in ensuring that newly planted trees have the best chance of thriving.
