  • Description: The Millwood & Alderwood is one of the only few ancient woodland in Merseyside dating back to before 13th Century it formed part of the larger Royal hunting forest of  Hale Wood also supplying Oak trees for the building of ships in the nearby Hale Bank.  The woodland has many species uniquely associated with ancient woodland such as Wood Sorrel, Wood Anemone, Dog Mercury.
The Friends of Millwood & Alderwood was formed over 10 years ago. A lot has been done to the woods since then, the pathways have improved to allow wheelchairs & baby buggies to get around the woods safely.  Over the years the group has won many prizes for the work they have undertaken including a plaque from the BBC for taking part in planting 400 trees in an hour to go towards the world record of planting 1 million trees in an hour.

The group also have their own photography group that have taken many a good photograph! It’s nice to see all the seasons changing & we still enjoy going around the woods taking photographs on our walks!
