New Directions: Chief Executive Recruitment
Director-General Pauline Buchanan Black has announced that after leading The Tree Council for more than sixteen years, she is to make way for a successor.
“There’s never a right time to surrender the leadership of such a special organisation; there’s always so much to be done and opportunities to capitalise on” she said. “The challenges of tree disease and reduction of canopy cover are, however, counterbalanced on all sides by the groundswell of enthusiasm and action that I see coming from member organisations, volunteers and concerned individuals for a new era of recognition for the importance of our green infrastructure in general and trees in particular.”
She leaves The Tree Council in a really strong place and, thanks to the input and support of the member organisations, poised to seek out innovative ways to continue to work with them to make trees matter to everyone. She will be handing over the reins of a charity that she says has not only been a constant source of inspiration for her but also, the range of contacts and networks that have kept her on her toes and given her the benefit of access to a wealth of knowledge and insights that have been fundamental to discharging her role here.
But she’s not disappearing quite yet. She will remain in post until her successor is available to take up the position and Trustees are now looking for the next Chief Executive.
