Event details: Bluebell Day in Holyford Woods. Late spring is the best time to see Holyford Woods, when the bluebells are at their best. From dawn until dusk East Devon's Countryside Service will be running free guided walks on a variety of themes. At 6.30am there will be a Dawn Chorus walk followed by tea and hot bacon butties (charge applies for food). During the main part of the day guided walks run on the hour from 10am until 3pm. The walks range from a general look at the woods to more specialised walks about plants, wildlife and the history of the woods. Particularly popular with children is the 3pm Nut Detectives walk to identify which of our furry friends have been gnawing on the hazelnuts. An evening bat walk rounds off the day. There is no parking available at the woods but free parking is available at Colyford Memorial Hall just off the A3052 at Colyford from where a free shuttle bus will be running from 9.45am until 3.45pm. There are additional buses just for the dawn and dusk events for which booking is essential. Just turn up for the other events. Refreshments available.
